Have you been on Ancestry.com and seen the following screen?
Did you get excited when you saw the words ďOrder RecordĒ on the right and clicked on it?
Then the screen above pops up and you learn that it will cost you $38!!!
Have no fear, learn how to pay less than half by ordering an England civil registration from the GRO (General Register Office).
Here is what you will need.
To order the marriage certificate above, you would first need to click on View Record in the image at the top and the following would appear.
You will need the name and information highlighted in yellow to order the certificate.
Now that you have the information you need, you go to www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp.
You will need to register the first time, and then click the Order a certificate online now. Once you login, you should be directed to this page.
For the marriage certificate, I have highlighted those items you need to check and enter.
Then you will be directed to the page below.
This is the page where you fill in the quarter, district, volume and page number.
The cost is 9.25 pounds which is $13.97 US dollars. Thatís a bargain from the $38 above.
You will next be directed to the payment and shipping page. Just fill that out and pay with a credit card. It only takes a couple weeks to come to your mail box!!!!!
Note: You donít have to use Ancestry.com to see the index. You can go to www.freebmd.org.uk/ This site will access all the civil registration indexes for FREE. You will need to know the county they were living from a Census record if you donít know the registration district.
