I have decided to share ideas of what wards and stakes are doing to help get ward members involved, or at least thinking about their ancestors. I would like to hear what successes you have had in your wards as well.
This week, Betsey Neil shares what they have done in their Primary or with individual families.
PRIMARY IDEA: You can have a large poster board up front with a picture of a Temple at the top. Each month, you can have the children find an ancestor whose birth date falls in that month. The children are challenged to find a picture and a story or vital statistic info (birth, marriage, children, death etc.) about their ancestor to post on the poster board. The last Sunday of the month, the Primary sings Happy Birthday to those ancestors. This can be done by class or the entire Primary, whatever the Primary presidency decides.
FAMILY IDEA: Each month, we try to find an ancestor who was born in that month. You can involve the whole family in this, according to age and computer ability. The idea is to find out everything they can about those ancestors, especially stories. Little children can work with older brothers & sisters. The last Monday of the month, for Family Home Evening, we have a birthday party, with cake & ice cream and a candle for each ancestor we have found. Then the family members report on what they have found. If you are fortunate enough to find lots of family members in one month, you can narrow it down to just one.
Thanks so so much Betsey. These are great and simple ideas.
